- Title
El servicio público como coartada.
- Authors
Cañizález, Andrés
- Abstract
The article discusses the sixth month anniversary of when Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez closed down the television station Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV). According to the author, the reason for which the channel was shut down was purely political and that the reason that was given by the government, that there was a need for a public service channel, was actually just an alibi. With the government and, in particular, the president assuming more and more control over the airwaves as a way of promoting their politics, their actions have, in turn, begun to break down the role of government in Venezuela.
