- Abstract
The article offers information on the right to counsel of choice, for the criminal defendants in the U.S. It discusses the provision of "a meaningful attorney-client relationship" in the Sixth Amendment and mentions its association with the right to counsel. It reports the court's decision in the case Morris v. Slappy, denying the Sixth Amendment's provision and mentions the importance of right to counsel for nonindigent defendants along with the indigent defendants. It also discusses the nature of the right, as expressed in the United States v. Gonzalez-Lopez case and states the necessity of providing the right to the defendants by the trial court. It also provides a history of the development of the Sixth Amendment and suggests the need for revised right to counsel jurisprudence.
