- Abstract
The article reports on the proposed ban of neonicotinoid pesticides in the European Union (EU) due to research implicating the chemicals in Colony Collapse Disorder, a phenomenon causing declines in pollinator bee populations. The recommendation by the European Commission would prohibit the use of neonicotinoids such as imidacloprid, clothianidin, and thiamethoxam, for two years on crops including corn, apples, and strawberries. Potential economic losses to the chemical industry are estimated.
