- Abstract
The article discusses the role played by the ethnologist Archibald Meston in the institutionalisation of Indigenous Australian people through his drafting of the Queensland's Aboriginals Protection Act of 1897 and his shows featuring Indigenous people as exhibits. Topics include how Meston's legislation was adopted by other Australian states for the institutionalisation of Indigenous people, and the perceptions of indigenous Aboriginal performers at Meston's exhibits.
