The article discusses the social competence problems that typify most children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems (EBD) or autism, particularly the problem they have recognizing others' facial expressions or emotions. It presents the case of a student with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to demonstrate the problem. It then describes some teaching strategies teachers can use to overcome the difficulties.
