- Abstract
The article discusses inbreeding depression (ID) as a compromising factor in ecotoxicological assays. Topics tackled are strategies for minimizing inbreeding in cultures, the capacity of ID to mask chemical effects, problem posed by sensitization and masking for ecological risk assessment (ERA), and the use of laboratory population sizes, paired breeding programs, and/or regular refreshment of cultures, as well as obligate parthegenetic test species to avoid ID in cultures.
