- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the early Mormon faith and the disputes and periodic confrontations between Mormons and their neighbors that lasted several decades. Topics discussed include the Mormon theology viewed as aberrant by Protestant Christians, Mormonism founder Joseph Smith being accused of being a autocratic despot, and clashes between Mormons and their neighbors in Missouri and Illinois that lasted till they moved to Nauvoo, Illinois in 1839.
