Machiavelli and the End of Nobility in Politics.
- Authors
Zuckert, Catherine
- Abstract
The article discusses the alleged diminishing of the nobility of character in politics and politicians from the early 16th century through the early 21st century, through referencing the Italian political philosopher and political theorist Niccolò Machiavelli's thought and his book "The Prince." Machiavelli's perspective on political power, including in regard to the putative need for political leaders to gain the support of the people, or the citizens, once they achieve power and political ethics, is discussed. The relationship between political leaders and virtue is also discussed.
