- Abstract
The article focuses on the advantages of the plant Impatiens Holstii for biology teachers. This plant is useful for demonstration or laboratory purposes. Water roots of the plant develop in a few days, with abundant root hairs. The cuttings grow quickly when plant is placed in moist soil. The stem is swollen at the nodes, succulent and soft. The epidermis is excellent for demonstrating cell structure when stripped off and stained with iodine. Leaves of the plant are simple, alternate, ex-stipulate, petioled, ovate or ovate lanceolate. They are also smooth and shining. Epidermis removed from the lower side of the leaf shows abundant stomata. The fruit is oblong or linear capsule, elastically dehiscent into five coiled valves, expelling the seeds. One of the scientists remarks that the plant genus has not been developed horticulturally. The plant is quite hardy under laboratory conditions if the temperature does not fall too low and it is regularly watered. An aid here will be the ease of propagation.
