- Abstract
The article discusses the shoulder throw technique, also known as katagurama, in judo that has been associated with the East European style. It features two judo artists, Gennadi Bilodid of Ukraine and Zurab Zviabuari of Georgia who have demonstrated the technique with different style during their international competitions. In the 2001 Paris European Championships, Bilodid dives low in the left manner to lift his opponent and grips his leg to prevent instinctive retreat which resulted to his opponent's defeat. Meanwhile, at the Osaka World Championships, Zviabuari uses the technique against Hwang Hee-tae but has only gained minor points on it, making the Korean won. Several photographs illustrating the cited throw technique are also provided.
