- Title
Doing Something about Nothing.
- Authors
Pemberton, Alec
- Abstract
The article discusses efforts by the Australian government to crack down on people defrauding the country's social security and unemployment programs. The author believes that Australia's government under Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser has developed a neo-conservative policy, which seeks to limit government spending, programs, and involvement. The author posits that unemployment benefits abuse is overstated by the government. It is argued that the cost of investigating and prosecuting fraudulent claims outweighs the losses caused by those claims.
