- Title
Impact of marine fouling upon corrosion of carbon steel structures.

- Abstract
To study the influence of marine fouling upon corrosion of ASTM A36 carbon steel structures, test racks were immersed in the Kaohsiung Harbor, Taiwan. Weight loss measurement and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were applied to evaluate corrosion of the steel. Five-year results indicate that the attachment of marine organisms on the steel surface retards general corrosion, but localised corrosion could occur underneath the marine organisms. Equivalent circuit model is established to simulate the attachment of marine organisms upon corrosion of carbon steel.
