- Title
Revolutionising paediatric radiology: the future impact of artificial intelligence.
- Authors
Shelmerdine, Susan C.
- Abstract
The article discusses the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on paediatric radiology. While AI is widely discussed in radiology, its adoption in paediatric radiology has been limited due to factors such as lack of trust, insufficient evidence of performance, and inadequate infrastructure. The unique challenges in paediatric radiology, such as handling smaller datasets and adhering to child-specific protocols, further contribute to the limited use of AI algorithms in this field. However, there are opportunities for AI to enhance paediatric radiology, particularly in areas such as improving image quality, reducing scanning times, and enhancing patient compliance. Despite the potential benefits, there is a need for extensive validation and tangible real-world outcomes before widespread adoption of AI in paediatric radiology. The article emphasizes the importance of addressing the unique requirements of children and ensuring their representation in AI algorithm development.
