- Title
A RETURN TO DESCARTES: PROPERTY, PROFIT, AND THE CORPORATE OWNERSHIP OF ANIMALS.
- Authors
Ibrahim, Darian M.
- Abstract
The article argues that today's factory farms, with the way they treat animals, have once again embraced if not in theory, then in practice, the view of French philosopher René Descartes that animals are inanimate objects which could not think or feel pain. The author also tackles the rise of agribusiness corporations and factory farming industry in U.S., then, shows how consumer demand for low prices and corporate demand for high profits contributed to this growth.
