- Abstract
Chapter 3 of the book "Ranching Women in Southern Alberta" by Rachel Herbert is presented. It discusses the impact of gender roles and working partnerships on family ranching which made the endeavor an enduring form of agriculture. It examines the manner in which gender roles effectively transformed existing divisions of labour by the realities of ranch work. It also describes how the patriarchal roots of agriculture complicated women's status within their personal relationships.
