- Title
Informed consent, AIDS, and the practicing dentist.
- Authors
Simonsen, Richard J.
- Abstract
The article presents the author's opinion on the issue of transmission of diseases like acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) from dental practitioners to patients. He discusses the report of an AIDS affected dentist in the U.S. who was proved to have transmitted it to three patients and states that the dentist was wrong on not informing his patients about his condition. Though the transmission risk is very small, yet he considers that informing the patient is a part of medical ethics.
