- Abstract
We thank Dr Blakeney for drawing attention to this issue and we agree that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) requires that practitioners establish the clinical necessity of each NHS-funded sight test. In fact, deviation from the recommended intervals is likely to identify the provider as an outlier in routine monitoring, and liable to be asked to justify the outlier position for probity purposes. The use of the recommended minimum intervals for the purpose of this study was to have a defined, if not definitive, timeframe to test our hypothesis.
