- Abstract
Dominant plant species can have important effects on carbon and nitrogen flows within ecosystems. Such effects can lead to significant positive feedbacks between changes in ecosystem processes and dominant plant species composition resulting in strongly accelerated plant species replacement during succession. Much attention has been paid to the effects of plant species on soil processes, such as nitrogen mineralization, by the production of different quantities of litter and litters with different decomposabilities.
