- Abstract
This article offers an approach to the dynamics of Leticia and Tabatinga urbanization, two border cities in the Amazon, from the study of urban morphology. It is suggested that the urbanization of those has been determined by formal and informal elements, which appear to be directly connected and associated with the management of various urban agents of both the peri-urban soils, integrated in multiple ways to the city's continuum and the border condition. This process of urbanization has generated forms that reinforce or resist the political division of space. Therefore, to consider the cities from the transformation of their physical space, allows to see two processes: First, the ways in which formerly peripheral or rural lands adjacent to the boundary change in increasingly urbanized areas with formal and informal neighborhoods. Second, how in these neighborhoods, its inhabitants build their housing space by reinforcing or challenging the border condition. The study therefore focuses on the dynamics of neighborhood formation and the expression of urban form in three different zones of the cities adjacent to the limit that respond to different moments of the development of the border cities.
