- Abstract
A numerical wave model is used to make a preliminary statistical analysis of the distribution characteristics of sea waves in the coastal sea areas based on the FHDI-GNWM hindcast wave data from 2015 to 2019 and preliminary conclusions were drawn as following: 1) the wave direction in the study sea area is basically consistent with the wind direction and the main wave direction in winter is E direction while the main wave direction in summer is SSW direction; and 2) the waves in the study sea area are mainly wind waves and characterized obviously by monson waves with smaller wave heights in summer with an average wave height between 0:4 m and 0.7 m and bigger wave heights in winter with an average wave height between 0.85 m and 1.1 m. Furthermore, the wave-induced downtime related to ship loading and unloading is also analyzed for a container terminal based on ship mooring testing. The results of the study provide reference for the knowledge of the characteristics of waves and winds in the coastal sea areas and for the designs of similar port projects.
