- Abstract
The article presents a demographic profile of gay and lesbian Jews and examines their religious life and involvement with Jewish community. The text draws from the results of a survey conducted by the authors. It was found that men were twice as likely than women to identify themselves as a homosexual person. Those aged 60 years and above hardly identified themselves as a homosexual person. Among the respondents in this age group, only 2% admitted homosexuality, compared with 9% among those aged 35 years and below. Survey data revealed significant gaps between gay Jews and their heterosexual counterparts in terms of ritual practice, religious identify and religiosity.
