- Abstract
In this research, the endowment [waqfiya] of the cash waqf [money foundation] belonging to the Kuruçay Madrasah in a village of Çubuk, in Ankara is the subject of the research and the foundation is discussed. The discussion is carried out around the waqfiya of the madrasa in Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü Arşivi [The Archive of the General Directorate of Foundations]. For this, an intellectual ground is formed by mentioning the Ottoman madrasas and cash waqfs. In addition, the Kuruçay Madrasa and information about its founder are given and the elements in the waqfiya are discussed. During the discussion of the waqf, the elements it contains are emphasized and comparisons are made regarding the size of the cash waqf as well as its purchasing power. As a result of the discussion, it is concluded that cash waqfs were also used in the financing of the Ottoman madrasas, such financing opportunities were preferred in the distant regions of Ankara and the public supported educational initiatives. According to the result, it has been concluded that cash waqfs and their opportunities can still be used in education and higher education institutions.
