The article discusses two studies that highlight gastrointestinal tract symptoms as the first signs of an eating disorder. It references a report on extreme achalasia which mimics anorexia nervosa in an 18-year-old woman in Great Britain by P. J. Goldsmith and B. Decadt in the 2012 issue of "Case Reports in Surgery." It also cites a second study of functional dyspepsia led by Antonella Santonicola in Italy that was published in the 2012 issue of "World Journal of Gastroenterology."
