- Abstract
The article relates the study which investigates the effects of soothing background music on task relevant and irrelevant learning of educable student with mental disabilities in Virginia. The samples used in the study were pupils enrolled in Petersburg Training School. It was concluded that music may be an aid in enabling students to attend to relevant stimuli. It was also found out that music enables institutionalized educable retarded children to process more information because relevant learning was increased without the reduction in irrelevant learning.
