- Title
Locally Acquired Dengue-- Key West Florida, 2009-2010.
- Abstract
The article offers information on the first three dengue cases reported in Key West, Florida from 2009 to 2010. A suspected dengue case was reported to the Monroe County Health Department (MCHD) and the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) on September 1, 2009 in a New York resident whose recent travel was to Key West. A discussion on the diagnosis of the patients, ages between 34 and 48 years old, is provided. Other topics discussed include the measures employed to mitigate and control the outbreak, and the need for clinicians to include dengue in the differential diagnosis of acute febrile illnesses in patients who reside in or have traveled to subtropical cities of the U.S. or to the tropics.
