In this article the author discusses the medical care which was given to her terminally ill mother and the relationship that her mother had with her physician. She is critical of a depersonalization that is often seen in medical care. Also investigated is the importance of compassion and the human touch in medicine and of the impact that a good physician can have on a terminally ill patient and that patient's family.
