- Abstract
The article discusses the managerial and financial difficulties faced by Radha Jalan as she became the president of ElectroChem, Inc., a global supplier of fuel cell technology. Following the death of her husband, ElectroChem founder Vinod Jalan, Radha focused on improving the company's reputation and market share while climbing out of debt by maximizing profitability. She had no formal business or leadership training, but was able to negotiate a merger with another fuel cell company to increase ElectroChem's visibility. Radha also survived the efforts of an investor group attempting to overtake her business' fuel cell tester station.
