- Title
Staging the Political: Repetition, Difference, and Daniel Buren's Cabanes Éclatées.
- Authors
ALBERRO, ALEXANDER; ALTER, NORA M.
- Abstract
The article examines artist Daniel Buren's visual work, together with his critical and analytical writings. Buren believes that writing is composed of more than a mere explanation of his work a posteriori. It is said that the artist uses critical writing to show that the visual practice alone cannot convey the totality of his artistic practice and that words are needed to elucidate that which is not yet seen. In 1965, Buren made the decision to limit his artistic practice to painting only vertical stripes 8.7 centimeters wide. In the 1970s, he started to alter his site-specific practice. It cites the creation of the Cabane éclatée for the site in Situ show presented at the Konrad Fischer Gallery in Düsseldorf, Germany.
