- Title
The Case of Workgroups in Manufacturing Operations.
- Authors
Safizadeh, M. Hossein
- Abstract
The article looks at workgroups in manufacturing industries. From a strictly physical standpoint, automation is seen as a solution to the headaches brought about by physical limitations of workers, labor unions, and government regulations. However, automation does not take into account the intellectual aspects that employees can contribute to all areas of the company. Employee participation in management is discussed. Manufacturers, in an effort to remain competitive, should utilize both the flexibility of employees as well as the efficiency of technological innovations. Reexaminations of job design concepts to increase job satisfaction are mentioned.
