- Abstract
Grasserie is a major infectious disease of silkworms caused by the Bombyx mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus. The virus belongs to the family Baculoviridae and is composed of a polyhedron with a single molecule of circular supercoiled double-stranded deoxyribose nucleic acid. The disease causes massive mortality (more than 60% of the total crop loss caused by different diseases), causing significant great crop loss to the sericulturists by reducing the cocoon crop and silk produce. There has been no effective solution for preventing and treating the disease. In the present review, the authors explore the subject in detail and inspire the researchers to search for molecular mechanisms of gene action and promote disease-resistant silkworm breeding.
