- Abstract
The article examines the novel "Tristan," composed by Béroul in 1150. The romance novel in verse depicts the life and adventure of Tristan and Yseut after drinking a magical beverage. The author highlights the theme of fire which has not drawn the attention of critics and researchers. He points out the connotation and references to fire as they are developed in Béroul's story. He also examines the bipolarity of the fire images which are presented as divine and salvatory force that protects the lovers throughout their adventure.
