Collagen constitutes an important element of extracellular matrix that plays a key role in wound healing process. Keratinocytes and fibroblasts are main cell types able to deposit collagen at the wound bed. This process begins in proliferative phase of healing and is strictly regulated. Disruptions of collagen synthesis and structure are characteristic for many chronic diseases, which implicates the necessity to workout collagen-based therapies.
