- Abstract
The article discusses a study that assessed the antioxidant, antimicrobial and anticholinesterase activities of the fruit extracts of Turkish Juniperus species. The study found that the Juniperus (J.) excelsa, J. sabina, J. phoenicia and J. oxycedrus subspecies oxycedrus can be used as food preservatives and shelf-life extenders because of their high antioxidant actions. Extracts from the six Juniperus species were also assessed against acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, which are the key enzymes in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease.
