- Abstract
The article focuses on the controversy involving the 'designer baby' patent in the U.S. entitled "Gamete donor selection based on genetic calculations" awarded to the direct-to-consumer genetics company 23andMe in September 2013. The question of whether 23andMe is doing research or business have risen in the attempt of the company to navigate the ethical minefields related to the utilization of personal health data. The patent is regarded by chairman Dietrich Stephan as heretical.
