- Authors
Laursen, Lucas
- Abstract
The article focuses on the announcement of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture on a voluntary or self-reporting pilot program for speeding up document preparation. It mentions the backlog of the agency on the approval of genetically modified (GM) crops that requires preliminary studies and environmental assessment at the cost of up to 100,000 U.S. dollars. It also notes the similar self-regulatory system followed by the drug industry known as Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies.
