- Abstract
The article reports on the awarding of money by the U.S. Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to eight vaccine manufacturers that make vaccines against naturally occurring diseases like H1N1 influenza and others it viewed as potential bioterrorist weapons. BARDA hopes to push for the development of vaccines and produce medical countermeasures in the face of any attack or threat. Among the contract winners were VaxDesign, Novartis partnered with Synthetic Genomics Vaccines and Rapid Micro Biosystems.
