- Title
Dispelling the Myth that Not 'Every Body' Can Dance:.
- Authors
Cheyne, Kimberley
- Abstract
The article examines the issue of how dance photography can affect girls' perception of themselves, ideal body types and their level of desire to dance. The stereotyping of dancers to be thin are observed to be discouraging other girls to try dancing as a form of self expression. Movies such as 'Save The Last Dance," and television shows like "Dancing with the Stars," typifies the kind of body a dancer needs to have. Photography and other forms of media are encouraged to make an effort to portray other body types as possible dancers.
