PREHISTORY OF THE SOUTHERN BAHARIYA OASIS, WESTERN DESERT, EGYPT. AN OUTLINE.
- Authors
Svoboda, J. A.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the origin of the human settlement and activities of The Southern Bahariya Oasis and Western Desert, Egypt. It found out that the rare Acheulian from the Bir el-Showish plain started the prehistoric occupation in Southern Bahariya Oasis. The Acheulian handaxes toward eventual fine leaf-shaped points was the main trend identified in the Middle Paleolithic and has been conservative in principle. It notes that it did not display increased blade production or Upper Paleolithic technology. Meanwhile, there was no clear evidence of Neolithic occupation in the form of pottery and diagnostic lithics in Bahariya.
