- Title
Tibetans marginalized as new luxury hotels built in Lhasa - I.
- Authors
Lafitte, Gabriel
- Abstract
The article discusses the tourism in Tibet that will likely flourish, but will leave the native Tibetans marginalized. The tourism will boom with the help from the market research of the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and UN Development Programme (UNDP), huge infrastructure funds from Beijing, and business investments from worldwide luxury hotels in partnership with Chinese developers. Meanwhile, the major hotel chains need to gain and maintain market share by having a presence in Lhasa.
