- Abstract
The article describes the result of an examination of a 40.57-cut transparent-to-semitransparent yellow oval tablet, which was submitted to the New York laboratory as a star sapphire. The stone is a natural sapphire with a fixed reflective six-armed star with associated color zoning, based on standard gemological testing. According to gemological literature trapiche sapphire, just like the one under examination, is considerably rarer. Further analysis of the stone reveals that there are differences in inclusions, color and growth structure, which suggests that it was crystallized from its core outward.
