- Abstract
The article discusses the results of the gemological testing of a parcel of manganaxinite through quantitative chemical analysis using JEOL 5800 scanning electron microscope with high-resolution Princeton Gamma Tech IMIX-PTS germanium detector. Characteristics of the stone were consistent of axinite. It had 6.9 weight percent manganese oxide, 2.7 weight percent magnesium oxide, and only 0.7 weight percent iron oxide. The sample was classified as manganaxinite since it has a manganese/magnesium ratio of ~1.5.
