- Abstract
The article looks at the role of the Nepali language in the establishment of political identity of Nepalis in Darjeeling, India. The significance of language identity is emphasized, along with the constitutional provisions and linguistic reorganization of Indian states. A discussion on the increasing importance of Nepalis and the Nepali language in Darjeeling is given. The efforts to make Nepali the official language in Darjeeling are also explored.
