- Abstract
Jessie Kleemann is one of the pivotal cultural figures of the home rule era (1979-2009) and the contemporary era of self-governance in Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland). This article discusses her contributions to the country's art environment since the 1980s, from internationalising the Nuuk Art School to experimenting with video and body art. As an introduction to her biography and her practice, I discuss how Kleemann approaches embodiment as a means of linking the personal, the collective and the historical.
