- Abstract
The article discusses the poetry and rhetoric manuals used by the Kyiv-Mohyla Collegium university in Kyiv (Kiev), Ukraine during the 17th and 18th centuries. Particular focus is given to the poetry and rhetoric manuals' referencing of history, historical fiction and poetic invention, including in the manuals "Pravyla piytycheskiia o stikhotvoreniy rossiiskom y latynskom," by Apollo Baibakov and "De Arte Poetica Libri...III," by Teofan Prokopovych. Prokopovych's influence on the Ukrainian writer and Kyiv-Mohyla Collegium alumni Samiilo Velychko is discussed.
