- Abstract
The article focuses on the origin of Illinois State Normal University in the Antebellum Lyceum. The author explores the important role played by lyceums in Illinois. He emphasized that these learning institutions made an important contribution in the year 1800's as providers of knowledge with regards to political, scientific, and religious topics. He added that the contributions and functions that lyceums have made would be a benefit for the college and universities such as Illinois State University in the near future.
