- Abstract
The article focuses on the regulations regarding the manufacture and sale of synthetic nucleic acid (sNA) sequences under the Human Pathogens and Toxins Act (HPTA) of Canada. It mentions Canada's risk-based approach to the regulation of human pathogens and toxins and failure to screen sNA orders, which creates risks to human health and safety. It also mentions synthetic biology a technology which can mitigate the risks that it creates.
