- Abstract
The article focuses on the significance of cognitive position in instructional methods of education. The implications of the cognitive position extend beyond the goals of instruction alone. The traditional curricular approaches emphasize that the aim of education is to internalize cultural knowledge and values by the learner. The types of educational evaluation implied by traditional approaches lay emphasis on success within a system. But, it should be noted that traditional approaches aim to separate educational goals into various categories like social achievements, values, cognitive knowledge, etc. The theory of cognitive psychology is concerned with the prepared mind. In human life, there is a knowledge system which consists of intellectual skills and conceptual or symbolic knowledge, knowledge about oneself, and about one's interactions with others. A prepared mind is set to adopt fully developed knowledge structures. A prepared mind, in turn, is characteristic of a mind set to assimilate and use information and to create new knowledge. It has been evident that the perception of children is different from adults as they don't scan as efficiently.
