- Abstract
Alexander Milchev, a renowned scientist in the field of electrochemistry, has passed away. Born in Greece in 1943, Milchev obtained his MSc degree in chemistry from Sofia University in 1968. Throughout his career, he conducted experimental and theoretical studies on electrochemical phase formation, particularly focusing on the initial stages of electrochemical nucleation. Milchev collaborated with scientists from various countries and maintained an open laboratory in Sofia, where he trained young scientists to high standards. He published numerous papers and review articles on electrochemical nucleation and growth, as well as a monograph on electrocrystallization. Milchev also had a strong interest in the history of science and published works on the scientific background of his predecessors. The Journal of Solid State Electrochemistry will publish a Memorial Issue in his honor.
