- Abstract
The article offers information on the monodrama Erwartung, opus 17 composed by American composer Arnold Schoenberg. It discusses the themes and details of the monodrama's background and context as well as the history and practice of Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis. It mentions the psychoanalytic period of Schoenberg where he got preoccupied with his psychic unrest and the time where he explored the compositional aesthetics on the expression of the unconscious. It also focuses on the Freudian connection of librettist Marie Pappenheim and Bertha Pappenheim.
