- Abstract
The article focuses on notion of freedom in the dictionaries printed under the Ancien Régime, heavy with implicit content relating to monarchical and religious power. It mentions freedom of conscience and free will pay little attention to individual freedom, except for captivity, artistic creation, love and riding. It also mentions socio-cultural issues of controlled freedom make it possible to understand the art of lexicographers to circumvent the constraints of ideological censorship.
